PNG Hilton on track for early completion

Papua New Guinea’s Hilton Port Moresby and the wider  Star Mountain Plaza is expected to be completed ahead of its scheduled opening.

The complex is a multi-use facility, with accommodation and retail developments, designed to attract more overseas visitors to PNG.

The venue will host leaders from around the world at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation later this year. The venue’s construction is now expected to be completed in September this year – two months before the start of APEC.

Over 800 staff members working in shifts 24 hours a day ensured the projects’ early completion. An additional 200 workers are expected to join the team over the next six weeks as the push to finish the project’s interior progresses.

The first phase of construction started with the 212-room Hilton Port Moresby and its convention centre.

“Our project will be delivered in multiple phases enabling Hilton to gradually assume control. It is with great pleasure that we can officially handover the first area of the new five-star hotel and Kutubu convention centre to Hilton,” explained Mineral Resource Development Companies (MRDC) managing director Augustine Mano.

“Over the coming weeks, more areas of the development will be handed over in the lead up to the final construction completion date on 13 September 2018,” he said.

Independent data reports the Star Mountain Plaza development will bring in more than PGK $235 million (NZD $103 million) to the local economy.
